Mumbai: With COVID-19 cases on the rise, districts such as Akola, Amravati and Yavatmal may undergo new lockdown, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday said.

“People are seen flouting COVID-19 restrictions thus the government will take a decision to implement strict preventive measures to curtail the further spread of COVID-19. The decision on implementing the lockdown will be taken after review meeting with the Chief Minister today. It is seen that districts such as Amravati, Akola and Yavatmal are witnessing a surge in spread of COVID-19. These districts may witness new lockdown,” Ajit Pawar talking to mediapersons said.

“As compared to Mumbai, Amravati is witnessing an increase in COVID-19 cases. The decision on lockdown in Amravati, Akola and Yavatmal’s rural or city area will be taken. The talks are held with the Guardian Ministers of the district,” he added.

Earlier on Tuesday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray urged people to strictly follow government-mandated rules on masks and social distancing or be prepared to face another round of lockdown.
