Maharashtra extends lockdown till July 31 amid rise in COVID-19 cases
The Maharashtra state government extended the coronavirus lockdown till July 31 due to the curtailing the spread of the novel virus in the state. The announcement came after the day Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray addressed the state on Sunday.
The restrictions and relaxations that were imposed before should be followed the same way up to July 31. In containment zones, only essential activities will be permitted. No movement of people in and out of these zones will be allowed except for medical services and keeping the supply of essential goods.
CM Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday said that although its progress in tackling coronavirus, the outbreak is not over yet and requested the people of Maharashtra to follow rules and confirm the lockdown is not re-imposed.
While addressing the state via Facebook Live, he requested to people to not venture outside unless it's essential. He clearly stated, "While we are giving relaxations doesn't mean that the coronavirus outbreak is over. Don't think that the lockdown restrictions will cease after June 30. The threat of coronavirus still appears over the state and all protections need to be taken.”
Mumbai Police on Sunday urged the city residents not to move beyond the two-km radius of their homes for the purpose of exercise or visiting shops and salons, in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.
The travel movement beyond two km is allowed only for attending office or medical services also the movement outside radius of two km for shopping is strictly forbidden.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra continues to be the worst COVID-19 hit state in India where there have been 1,64,626 COVID-19 confirmed cases and 7,429 fatalities.
