Good news for Maharashtra! Maharashtra bagged the second spot in India Innovation Index 2020 that was released by the NITI Aayog recently. Maharashtra which is behind followed by first placed Karnataka is currently led by Maha Vikas Aghadi under the leadership of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

The India innovation index is made along the global innovation index modelled by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) but tracks less factors currently.

States in India have accomplished an average score of 23.4 in the innovation index that measures from a scale of 0 to 100. The score of 23.4 displays that our country has a huge scope for development in the space of innovation.

Apart from Maharashtra, four states from southern part- Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Telangana and Kerala are among India's top five in providing a conducive environment for innovation, states the India Innovation Index 2020. On the other side, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Bihar scored the lowest on the index, which led them at the bottom in the “major States” category.

Maharashtra had ranked third last year.
