Mumbai: Maharashtra Assistant Police Inspector (API) Sachin Vaze was arrested by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) late on Saturday here. He was arrested for his role and involvement in Placing explosives laden vehicle near Carmichael Road in Mumbai.

After being questioned for 12 hours by the NIA, the arrest was made late Saturday. The investigative agency is probing the case of last month's recovery of an explosives-laden van from outside the Mumbai residence of Reliance Industries head, Mukesh Ambani.

The top cop will be presented in the court on Sunday.

Earlier this week, the encounter specialistr who had earlier joined the Shiv Sena during a period of suspension from service, was removed of the Mumbai Crime Branch. He was transferred to the Citizen Facilitation Centre (CFC).

Vaze also filed his anticipatory bail but the plea was rejected by the Thane District Court.

Before heading to the NIA office on Saturday, Sachin Vaze shared a cryptic status on WhatsApp claiming that he is being falsely implicated in the matter and that the “time to say goodbye” is close.

In last month, a van was found near Mukesh Ambani's Mumbai residence with explosives and a threat letter inside. The police traced the vehicle back to Hiran Mansukh but he claimed it had been stolen few days back. The case was turned when Mansukh was found dead in a creek in Thane just after 10 days of the incident. His wife has also accused Vaze of being involved in his death.
