Mayor Reservation Declared for 29 Municipal Corporations in Maharashtra; See Full List here
22 January 2026: Following the declaration of results of 29 municipal corporations on 16 January, public attention has shifted to who will become the next mayors in Maharashtra’s major cities. This curiosity intensified when the reservation draw for mayoral posts was declared.
As per the draw, out of the 29 mayoral posts, one has been reserved for the Scheduled Tribe category, three for the Scheduled Caste category, eight for Other Backward Classes, while the remaining posts fall under the General category.
A notable feature of this year’s reservations is the strong presence of women-specific categories across several key municipal corporations.
For Pune Municipal Corporation, the mayor’s post has been reserved for the General – Woman category. This has sparked political interest, particularly within the BJP, which has 67 women corporators in the civic body.
Several experienced women leaders are being discussed as potential contenders, indicating that the party is well placed to stake a strong claim for the post.
With the reservation picture now clear, political negotiations and leadership choices are expected to accelerate across Maharashtra, setting the stage for the next phase of urban administration in the state.
