Mumbai: Reporting unprecedented rise in Covid-19 cases in some areas of Mumbai again, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) may impose another lockdown in some part of the financial capital. The city’s Mayor also has not discounted the chance of another lockdown.

“It's a matter of concern. Most people travelling in trains don't wear masks. People must take precautions else we'd head towards another lockdown. Whether lockdown will be implemented again, is in the hands of people, Kishori Pednekar, Mumbai Mayor was quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Tuesday.

Her statement came after a day when Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar stated that the state government would take strict action if COVID-19 cases continue to surge. “We will have to take stringent action after talking to the Chief Minister if cases continue to increase,” he had said while talking to media persons in Aurangabad.

According to some media reports, taking information on the situation, the administration has started issuing notices to residential societies some parts of Mumbai with the subject line instructions to all societies to follow stringent COVID-19 guidelines.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Tuesday reported 3,663 new COVID-19 cases. Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday said there was no reason to panic but safety norms must be followed strictly. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday warned that if people did not practice social distancing and wear mask, another lockdown may be imposed.
