Mumbai: Remember the song when popular RJ Malishka highlighted potholes in Mumbai through her video in 2017? Well, after years, the famous the kind of a song is making a comeback. In a unique move, the MSEDCL (Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited) has launched a song in a strategy to lure the consumers and fill its bills.

The state's power supplier is already frustrated by its ineffective moves to convince defaulters to cough out their pending power bills.

The MSEDCL's new song likens its users as 'Sonu' and lyrically asks: “Sonu, tula vijbill bharaycha nahi ka?” (Sonu, don't you want to pay the bills?).

It goes on to point out how 'Sonu' is a much-respected figure in his village, who flaunts in a way, charges his phone, fills fuel in the vehicle, uses many electrical appliances without care at home. "And 'Sonu' is our preferred customer, his collar's tight he uses all electrical appliances merrily But, 'Sonu, don't you want to pay the electric bills?," the song appeals.

In a viral song, the singer prompts the consumers that the hashtag of progress is light, if they pay up the bill, it will signal a 'bright future for the state and nation. The song that made buzz also piles in the allurements offered to customers by MSEDCL including discounts, installments and benefits if they clear up their bills on time.

From March 1, the MSEDCL, with 2.72-crore consumers, closed down on the estimated one crore defaulters who have allegedly not paid their bills from past one year.

Accordingly, the MSEDCL has mounted debts of a huge Rs70,000-crore, raising concerns on its sustenance and survival, as echoed by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut in the past. As per the directives of Ministers, the amount being recovered from the rural areas will be moved for creating the local power infrastructure with focus on 'renewable sources', since Maharashtra is already free of 'load-shedding' and entered the 'surplus power' era.
