State to become railway industry hub: Minister

Pune: State Minister for Skill Development and Labour Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar on Saturday said the government is planning to set up a ‘Railway Industry Hub’ on the lines of Uttar Pradesh, where several businesses have cropped up near the Raebareli coach factory. The new railway coach factory in the State is being built in Latur. 

He was speaking at a conference organised by the Maratha Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) - ‘Maha Conference on Rail and Metro’. 

Besides Nilangekar, Rajesh Agarwal, Railway Board Member of the Rolling Stock Board, Kiran Gitte, Chief of Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA), former MCCIA chairman Ravi Pandit, Vice President Deepak Karandikar and Director General Prashant Girbane were present.

Patil said, “India has a large network of railways. The work of expanding the network is going on. Therefore, there are huge opportunities in the railway sector. The Railway Coach Factory is being built in Latur, which will create more opportunities. Considering the future expansion of Railways, big business opportunities will be created. In Uttar Pradesh, several business ventures started near Raebareli coach 
factory.”

Rajesh Agarwal said, “Railway and rail-based business is an important industry for India’s development. Rail projects will be expanded due to projects such as Semi-High Speed, High-Speed Rail and Dedicated Freight Corridor. The government is expanding the railway network in association with private entrepreneurs.”

Gitte said, “A comprehensive traffic plan is being prepared, under which options such as hyperloop, metro rail, suburban train and light rail transports (LRT) are being considered.”
