State government okays Rs 100 cr for Thackeray memorial

Mumbai: The State Government has approved Rs 100 crore for the construction of Shiv Sena founder late Balasaheb Thackeray’s memorial at the Mayor’s Bungalow in Shivaji Park, Dadar, Mumbai.

According to sources, the BJP, desperate for an alliance, is trying to lure the Shiv Sena. However, Shiv Sena leaders said the party is not that cheap to accept BJP’s proposal of an alliance at this low cost.

A ceremony for the handing over of land to the trust will take place on Wednesday when CM Devendra Fadnavis and Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray share the dais.

“Our dream of building a memorial of late Balasaheb Thackeray is soon going to turn into reality. There will be only Ganesh Poojan and not Bhoomipoojan. After inviting tenders, the Bhoomipoojan will take place,” said Subhash Desai, Shiv Sena leader and Cabinet Minister.

The building comes under CRZ 1 (Coastal Regulation Zone), hence is governed by environmental norms. There will be no more changes in the bungalow as it is heritage-1 structure.

“The trust has all approvals from the BMC for construction,” Desai said.  January 23 is the birth anniversary of Balasaheb Thackeray. The Shiv Sena is keen to hold a symbolic function on this day, related to the memorial.
