State spent `45.42 lakh on Zoting Committee!

It investigated graft charges against Eknath Khadse.

Mumbai: The Zoting Committee which was constituted by the State government to investigate the alleged corruption by former revenue minister Eknath Khadse in the Bhosari land acquisition has incurred expenses up to Rs 45.42 lakh, revealed an RTI query.  

RTI activist Anil Galgali had sought information from the government about the expenses incurred on the Zoting Committee to which the general administration department (GAD) of government provided the information.

CN Mahire, Under Secretary (GAD), said that the salary expenses incurred on Justice Dinkar Zoting from June 23, 2016, up to July 15, 2017, was Rs 28,21,126 and the cost of expenses like telephone, petrol, newspapers, electricity, water was Rs 1.68 lakh. 

Similarly, the government paid an honorarium to another member Madhukar Chauhan from August 6, 2016, to July 15, 2017, was Rs 15,13,000. 

The enquiry committee headed by retired judge Justice Dinkar Zoting was appointed on June 23, 2016 to enquire into the irregularities in acquiring of land at Bhosari. The term for the enquiry was fixed for three months, but due to delay in preparation and enquiry procedure, the report was submitted on June 30, 2017.
