three sisters from Manchar sustained critical injuries after their vehicle met with an accident while en route to visit their ailing mother. The siblings, aged 18 to 24, were traveling from Pune to a rural healthcare center near Manchar when their car skidded off a rain-damaged stretch of the Mumbai-Nashik Highway late Thursday evening.
The collision occurred near the Khandi Ghat section, a notorious accident-prone zone, where the sisters’ car reportedly lost control due to poor visibility and slippery roads. Local farmers and truck drivers were first responders, pulling the injured from the mangled vehicle. They were rushed to Manchar Rural Hospital before being transferred to a Pune trauma center.
The sisters’ plight has sparked an outpouring of support, with neighbors crowdfunding ₹8 lakh for medical expenses within 24 hours. “Their mother is bedridden; these girls are her only caregivers. We won’t let them fight alone,” said a family friend.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has pledged to expedite repairs on the Khandi Ghat stretch, part of the ₹2,100 crore highway upgrade project. Meanwhile, local police have issued advisories for monsoon-related driving precautions.
