On Friday, Delhi Police apprehended over hundreds of individuals, including AAP leaders and members of various student groups, at Jantar Mantar and nearby locations during a demonstration against the CEC.

Authorities enforced prohibitory orders and stationed extra security forces to deter any unauthorized assemblies at the location, according to officials.

Various political parties and student organizations, including AISA, SFI, NSUI, and others, are protesting to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the mass deletion of voters.

Police stated that no permission was granted for the protest, leading to the detention of approximately 700 protesters from Jantar Mantar and nearby areas.

AAP leaders Saurabh Bharadwaj, Sanjeev Jha, and Atishi were among those taken into custody, according to police.

Numerous activists from AISA, SFI, NSUI, and other student groups were also detained during the police operation.

Authorities implemented extensive security measures around Jantar Mantar, deploying additional personnel and setting up barricades at various locations to block protesters from accessing the area.

Several demonstrators were observed attempting to breach barricades at Firoz Shah Road as police intervened to stop them from advancing toward Jantar Mantar.

Delhi Police officers repeatedly made public announcements urging people not to assemble at Jantar Mantar, citing the lack of permission for gatherings at the protest site.

Police stated that the detentions were conducted to prevent unauthorized assemblies in the vicinity.

To ensure security during the protest, the Delhi Metro temporarily shut down entry and exit points at multiple stations in central Delhi.
