Pune: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has blamed Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for its complete defeat in the recent Assembly elections.
The party failed to secure a single seat despite fielding candidates in 128 constituencies. Allegations of large-scale financial irregularities in some constituencies were also raised by several candidates.
In response, MNS chief Raj Thackeray has instructed party officials to file written complaints and gather concrete evidence regarding EVM-related issues.
A self-assessment meeting was held on Thursday under Raj Thackeray’s leadership to analyze the reasons behind the party's poor performance.
Attendees included 82 candidates from Western and North Maharashtra, along with district presidents, local heads, and divisional leaders. During the meeting, candidates provided detailed feedback on the challenges faced, low voter turnout, and other factors contributing to the results.
Raj Thackeray specifically asked questions about what transpired in the constituencies, why voter turnout was low, and the difficulties encountered during the campaign.
The candidates expressed concerns about EVM tampering and alleged that financial transactions influenced results in several constituencies.
State general secretary Rajendra alias Babu Wagaskar briefed reporters after the meeting, explaining that complaints against EVMs were raised by a majority of candidates.
While the party took a firm stand in contesting the elections, candidates suggested that strengthening and expanding the party’s organizational structure should now be a priority.
Raj Thackeray has directed officials to document complaints against EVMs and gather supporting evidence. Once the evidence is collected, it will be submitted to him for further action. Wagasakar clarified that any further steps would be taken based on Thackeray’s instructions.
