Pune: In a significant move to address the growing number of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) cases in Pune, the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana has doubled the cost ceiling for treatment under the scheme.
Previously, private hospitals empaneled under the scheme received ₹80,000 for GBS treatment, but this amount has now been raised to ₹1,60,000.
This decision, made by Annasaheb Chavan, CEO of the scheme, aims to ensure that patients can receive comprehensive treatment without bearing additional financial burdens.
A formal communication regarding this change has been issued by the State Health Guarantee Society to the Deputy Director of Health for the Pune Division.
The letter highlights that GBS cases, particularly those involving respiratory complications such as pneumonia, are on the rise in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Many of these patients require ventilator support.
The revised cost limits were recommended during a meeting chaired by the Divisional Commissioner of Pune on January 22, where the necessity of increasing the package amount to ₹1,60,000 was discussed.
Benefits to Patients
Patients receiving treatment for GBS in empaneled hospitals under the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana will now be eligible for free treatment up to ₹1,60,000. Hospitals are prohibited from charging additional fees for these treatments. The list of empaneled hospitals is available on the scheme's official website.
