Pune: Vishakha Balkrishna Dhokale from Dhoklewadi has become the first doctor from the Mulshi Dam area, fulfilling a dream she had nurtured since childhood. The granddaughter of Appa Dhokale, who once worked as a dabbawala in Mumbai, Visakha overcame numerous challenges to complete her MBBS education.
The journey of the Dhokale family reflects resilience and determination. Appa Dhokale had moved to Mumbai in 1960 due to financial hardships, taking up a job as a tiffin carrier.
However, the communal riots of 1991 forced him to return to his village and take up farming. Balkrishna, his son, bore the responsibility of supporting his family, working multiple jobs to achieve financial stability.
Balkrishna and his wife Rohini ensured their children received quality education. Encouraged by her parents’ sacrifices, Vishakha worked tirelessly to achieve her goal of becoming a doctor, despite having no medical background or guidance within the family. She completed her MBBS with focused study habits, prioritizing concept-based learning and extensive reading.
She has now secured admission to a medical college for further specialization in ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat). Her achievement has brought immense joy to the Dhokale family.
To celebrate her success, a felicitation ceremony has been organized on Sunday, the 22nd, at 6 PM at Yuvraj Banquet Hall, Ghotawade Phata, Balkrishna Dhokale informed.
