Pune: The family of a motorcyclist who tragically died in a road accident on the old Mumbai-Pune highway has been awarded ₹2 crore in compensation through a Lok Adalat settlement. The accident, which took place on February 26, 2021, at Wadgaon Phata, claimed the life of Praveen Dhende (49) and severely injured his son, Abhishek Dhende (24).
The accident occurred when a speeding car struck the motorcycle, leading to the death of Praveen Dhende, a senior technical manager at a chemical factory. His son Abhishek, a first-year engineering student, suffered critical head injuries. The incident was reported at Wadgaon Maval Police Station, and charges were filed against the car driver. The court hearing in the case remains pending.
After losing their primary breadwinner, the Dhende family, including Praveen's wife, mother, and another son, faced financial hardship and filed a claim with the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT). Simultaneously, Abhishek filed a separate claim for compensation due to his injuries. Advocate Bhaskar Suryavanshi represented the family in their legal pursuit.
The insurance company of the car proposed a settlement in Lok Adalat, which was accepted by both parties. Under the terms of the settlement, the insurance company agreed to pay ₹1.25 crore as compensation for the joint claim filed by the family and ₹75 lakh for Abhishek's claim.
The combined compensation of ₹2 crore has brought significant relief to the family, which had struggled financially since the accident. Advocate Suryavanshi stated that this settlement has provided the much-needed financial support to a family that had lost its sole earning member.
