A 26-year-old woman named Dhrupadi recounted her resignation on Instagram, detailing why she decided to leave her position at a music ed-tech firm after working there for almost three years. Her honest narrative struck a chord with thousands of users, transforming her personal story into a broader conversation about corporate work culture.

“Low Pay Is Survivable, Disrespect Isn’t”

In the now widely shared clip, an audio recording reportedly captures her manager speaking loudly as he responds to her request for payment for extra working hours. In the recording, he can be heard saying: “You all need to comply; everyone must follow my rules and regulations. If you don’t like it, you may leave tomorrow. That’s completely fine.”

As the audio plays, the on-screen text states, “All I requested was to be paid for overtime (after two years of working).” Later in the video, she appears again with another caption: "So I resigned." Elaborating on her choice, Dhrupadi wrote, "Low pay? Manageable. Disrespect? Absolutely not." She emphasized that preserving her self-respect was more important than staying in a workplace where her concerns were openly dismissed.

Why She Chose to Quit

Her post stated that she had been employed at the company for two years and seven months, during which she established a solid professional reputation. After regularly working beyond her official hours, she formally requested appropriate compensation and accountability. She said the reaction amounted to public humiliation rather than constructive dialogue. After formally addressing the issue and asking for an apology, she chose to resign when no remedial steps were taken.

Looking back on the experience, she wrote, “I’m proud to be part of a generation that is increasingly unafraid to assert its boundaries in public.”

Gen Z and the Shift in Workplace Expectations

Her video also addressed a wider cultural shift. She contended that both audiences and workers are placing greater importance on authenticity rather than “performative perfection,” connecting the popularity of relatable Gen Z creators to increasing discontent in the workplace. The incident has resonated with young professionals, who are increasingly placing mental well-being, fair pay, and respectful management above traditional notions of loyalty to an employer.

Most social media users backed her position. One person commented, “I’m incredibly proud of you for making this choice. It’s great to see that you refused to let them take you for granted any longer!”Another user pointed out a broader issue, stating, “Unless the government enforces strict regulations against unpaid overtime, skilled workers will continue to leave for opportunities abroad.”
