A wave of viral posts claiming that Air India had suspended all its international flights until July over an alleged fuel shortage sparked confusion among travellers, prompting the airline to step in and reject the claims.
The airline has clarified that there is no blanket cancellation of international services. Calling the viral messages “false” and “fabricated,” Air India said its global operations continue and urged passengers to depend only on official updates for accurate information.
The speculation appears to have originated from a misleading social media post, which was later amplified as users pointed to recent schedule changes on select international routes. However, these adjustments were limited in scope and do not represent a system-wide suspension.
Air India has been making targeted changes to its international network in recent weeks. Reports suggest more than 500 flights were trimmed across April and May, with further adjustments affecting around 100 daily operations in terms of timing or frequency.
The airline is reportedly managing a mix of operational pressures, including higher aviation fuel costs, airspace restrictions linked to West Asia tensions, longer flight paths, and route profitability challenges on some long-haul sectors.
Despite these recalibrations, Air India continues to operate flights across key international regions including Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia. Some routes may see reduced frequency or temporary changes, but services remain active.
The airline has advised passengers to verify flight status through official channels, as schedules continue to evolve due to operational and geopolitical factors.
