The mysterious disease that started spreading in Eluru city in Andhra Pradesh claimed one life on Sunday even as many as 300 residents fell sick.
Over 150 patients returned home after treatment at the hospital while the condition of others was stable, the West Godavari district medical and health officials informed. Here’s what we know about the mysterious disease so far:
MYSTERIOUS DISEASE
Health authorities in the state could not yet find the cause of the sudden disease though blood tests and CT (brain) scan were done.
Milk samples were collected at random and sent for examination in Vijayawada. Even water samples were sent for testing to the labs and no water pollution was reported. Blood samples of the patients were also sent to lab and no viral infections were detected. All the patients were tested negative for COVID-19.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS
Medical and health experts were trying to establish the cause of sickness. Most of the people sick were elderly and children. The affected people complained of sudden collapses, frothing at mouth and shivering. Doctors also informed that those suffering from the ailment developed headache, dizziness and epilepsy-like symptoms.
CM MONITORING THE SITUATION
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was monitoring the situation personally and instructed the officials to be alert. Special target is on the areas which reported cases and medical camps are being installed to provide treatment to the patients. Door to door survey is being conducted to check the health condition of the people. The district administration has announced a holiday in educational institutions around Eluru. A 24x7 control room has installed in the Eluru Municipal Corporation office.
