CBSE Exam, JEE Main 2020: HRD Ministry to make announcement today

According to several reports, the Union Human Resources Development Ministry is likely to issue an update on CBSE Exam, JEE Main and NEET UG 2020. As per reports, the ministry is set to declare its decision on whether to postpone or to cancel all three examinations due to the surge in COVID-19 cases. As per the earlier notification, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had informed the Supreme Court that a conclusion on whether to postpone or cancel the examination will be taken before June 23.

Some rumours say that Maharashtra, Delhi and Odisha governments have requested the Union Minister to cancel the CBSE exams due to increasing COVID-19 cases.

A petition is also being heard by the Supreme Court from parents of students scheduled to take the examinations who had uttered worries about the safety of lakhs of students. The appeal had requested the CBSE to cancel the exam around the country for the remaining subjects and to assess students based on the internal marks.

It is to be noted that JEE Main examinations and NEET UG are conducted by NTA and the NTA will have to reflect the fact that many admission processes for a number of colleges and universities depend on the examinations.

Ramesh Pokhriyal, Union Human Resource Development Minister, earlier had said, “ IIT-JEE (Main) examination to be held on 18, 20, 21, 22, & 23 July. IIT-JEE Advance exam to held in August, date to be announced later. NEET exam to be held on 26th July.”

HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal in last week had conducted multiple review meetings with officials from, CBSE, NTA, School Education and Literacy department, MHRD to look into the exam schedule and reopening of schools. He stated that the ministry’s priority has always been the safety and security of students and teachers.
