India and China assessed the broader situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and discussed major matters concerning boundary delimitation, border management, and cross-border cooperation.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated on Friday (August 7, 2026) that preserving peace and stability along the border is crucial for the broader advancement of bilateral ties, a remark made a day after diplomatic discussions between the two sides in New Delhi.
The two parties held candid talks and assessed the situation along the LAC, it stated.
The discussions took place within the framework of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs (WMCC).
“Both parties agreed to keep using established diplomatic and military communication channels—including the WMCC, meetings between local commanders, and other previously agreed mechanisms—to address unresolved issues and prevent misunderstanding or miscalculation along the LAC.,” the MEA remarked.
In a statement, it said that, building on the results of the previous round of Special Representatives’ talks, the two parties conducted extensive discussions on matters concerning boundary delimitation, border management, the development of institutional mechanisms, and cross-border cooperation.
The MEA stated that India again stressed the need to hold the next session of the expert-level mechanism on trans-border rivers at an early date and highlighted the significance of providing technical information on upstream projects.
At the meeting, the Indian delegation was headed by Sujit Ghosh, Joint Secretary (East Asia) in the Ministry of External Affairs, while the Chinese delegation was led by Hou Yanqi, Director General of the Boundary and Oceanic Affairs Department at China’s Foreign Ministry.
