Major General H.S. Gill, Yudh Seva Medal, General Officer Commanding of the Blazing Sword Division, attended the rally as the chief guest along with senior Army officials and representatives from civil administration and various government departments.

Addressing the gathering, he praised the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families.

“The courage, dedication and sacrifices of our veterans and Veer Naris will always remain a source of inspiration for the nation and the Armed Forces,” he said, adding that the Army remains committed to supporting them even after their service.

During the ceremony, six Veer Naris (war widows) and eight distinguished war veterans were honoured for their service and sacrifices. Their stories of resilience and dedication were acknowledged as examples for younger generations.

To assist the veteran community, 46 welfare stalls were set up by the Army, government departments, financial institutions and private organizations. These stalls provided services such as pension assistance, employment guidance, financial advice, documentation support and information on welfare schemes.

Representatives from CDA Guwahati and PCDA (P) Prayagraj helped resolve pension-related grievances and guided veterans on the SPARSH digital pension system. Stalls from organisations such as Assam Rifles, the Army Recruiting Office in Jorhat, the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), the Zila Sainik Welfare Organisation and the Directorate of Indian Army Veterans also provided guidance on benefits and entitlements.

Civil departments including agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and MSME agencies advised veterans on farming, entrepreneurship and government subsidy schemes to help them build sustainable livelihoods after retirement.

Banks including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and Axis Bank offered assistance on pension accounts, financial planning and loan facilities. Private companies and employment agencies also shared information on job opportunities and small business options.

A medical camp organised during the rally provided free consultations in gynecology, orthopedics, ophthalmology and dentistry. Medicines were distributed, and assistive devices including wheelchairs, hearing aids and a customised tri-scooter were given to disabled veterans.

The event also included a blood donation drive where about 80 units of blood were collected from volunteers. In addition, an Army recruitment counselling desk guided children of ex-servicemen on joining the armed forces.

Patriotic cultural performances by school and college students added a celebratory atmosphere to the event.

The rally served as a strong reminder of the enduring bond between the Indian Army and its veteran community, reaffirming the Army’s commitment to support those who once stood guard for the nation.
