Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Tuesday (September 1, 2026) that the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) must act in unity to dismantle the entire network of terrorism and its funding, emphasizing that there should be no tolerance for double standards in the fight against this threat.
In his speech at the annual SCO summit in the Kyrgyz capital, the Prime Minister emphasized that every war and conflict worldwide should be settled through dialogue and diplomacy, as battlefields can never yield lasting solutions.
Mr. Modi further emphasized that connectivity initiatives must honor the sovereignty and territorial integrity of every nation, comments widely viewed as an indirect reference to China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
The Prime Minister’s remarks on the necessity of tackling terrorism gained prominence as they were made against the backdrop of New Delhi’s persistent attempts to isolate Pakistan over cross-border terrorist activities.
We must dismantle the entire network of terrorism and its sources of funding, he stated. We must collectively affirm, with a single voice, that there is no room for double standards in addressing terrorism, Mr. Modi added.
The Prime Minister stated that wars and conflicts cannot be resolved on the battlefield and must instead be settled through dialogue and diplomacy. He further emphasized that India backs all initiatives that link markets, promote trade, and create new avenues for development.
At the same time, Mr. Modi emphasized that initiatives to enhance connectivity must uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.
He described the SCO as a meeting point of remarkable civilizations, cultures, and ideas for India. Mr. Modi stated that India’s approach to the SCO rests on three core pillars: security, connectivity, and opportunity.
