Second wave of COVID-19? Lockdown restrictions return in several states

Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, multiple states have declared to bring in new rules and curfew in districts reporting an increase in new cases, among other measures to contain the spread of the novel virus.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has scheduled a meeting with Chief Minister of states on Tuesday via video-conferencing. During the meeting, PM Modi will review the situation and as per their suggestions and is slated to make the best possible decision.

Here are some states where new restrictions and night curfews are in place:

Gujarat: After reporting a spike in novel virus, the Gujarat government had declared to impose a night curfew in three cities of the state, naming Ahmedabad, Surat and Rajkot on 21 November. Streets wore a deserted look as night curfew from 9 pm to 6 am next day was in force.

Himachal Pradesh: Markets and shops remain closed in tourist city Shimla following district administration's order to close the markets on Sundays until next orders. Also, shops those of groceries, milk, fruits, vegetables, meat and medicines have been exempted.

Madhya Pradesh: The state government has decided to impose night curfew in five districts which are the hotspots of COVID-19. The list includes Indore, Bhopal, Ratlam, Gwalior and Vidisha from Saturday. The night curfew will be from 10 pm to 6 am the next day. The schools in the state till Class 8 will remain shut till December 31.

Delhi: The nation’s capital will not witness a complete lockdown but there will be strict surveillance at markets in state, which are COVID-19 hotspots. Shopkeepers in Delhi have been advised by the state government to keep spare masks and hand sanitisers for visitors. The AAP government has also raised the fine for not wearing face masks in the city to Rs 2,000.

Rajasthan: The Rajasthan government recently imposed Section 144 in the capital city of Jaipur till December 20 on the backdrop of the rising number of COVID-19 cases. The government has also imposed night curfew in eight districts including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner, Udaipur, Ajmer, Alwar and Bhilwara.

Haryana: After around 174 students and 107 teachers tested positive for COVID-19, the state government of Haryana has again asked schools to remain shut till November end.
