Pune: A truck transporting construction materials tilted dangerously in front of the main gate of City International School in Maharshi Nagar on Tuesday (July 9).

The incident occurred at around 4 PM, coinciding with the school’s usual dismissal time, causing alarm among local residents. Fortunately, no accidents occurred as the school was closed due to a holiday declared by the district collector because of the heavy rain.

For several days, pipeline work has been progressing slowly in front of the school gate. Yesterday, a large truck carrying construction materials sank into the road and tilted to one side. The truck was loaded with sacks of construction materials, narrowly avoiding a major accident.

Local residents expressed their concerns, stating that had the incident occurred on a regular school day, it could have resulted in a significant tragedy.

They also complained about the lack of traffic police presence and action against illegal parking and unruly traffic in the area, allegedly due to the influence of a heavy-duty hotel owner.

Last month, a woman was killed instantly in an accident involving a dumper at Gangadham Chowk. In response, local residents and political and social groups demanded a ban on heavy vehicle traffic during the day.

Local MLA Madhuri Misal also instructed authorities to halt daytime heavy vehicle traffic. While police temporarily halted dumper traffic during the day following protests, dangerous heavy vehicle movement continues in the area.
