Pune: The Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has directed its recognized research centres to manage all concerns of PhD scholars locally instead of sending them directly to the university for administrative purposes.
The move aims to streamline the functioning of the Academic Admissions Department and ensure scholars receive the required assistance without unnecessary delays.
In a circular issued by Dr. Munjaji Rasve, Deputy Registrar of SPPU, the university clarified that all recognized research centres must take responsibility for supporting their scholars. These centres are expected to provide necessary facilities and guide scholars on procedural matters, as per the regulations governing their recognition.
The university has observed that many research centres have been advising scholars to visit the university directly for assistance, bypassing their designated coordinators or heads. This practice has reportedly caused significant disruptions in the operations of the Academic Admissions Department, wasting the time of constitutional authorities and delaying work.
Clear Responsibilities for Research Centres
To address this issue, SPPU has instructed research centre heads to ensure their coordinators assist scholars in a timely manner. All relevant PhD-related circulars issued by the university must also be communicated to the scholars promptly.
The circular further states that for any administrative work related to the PhD process, only authorized personnel—such as research centre heads or coordinators—should visit the university.
This directive reinforces the university’s aim to improve efficiency and reduce unnecessary disruptions in its administrative processes. Scholars are encouraged to seek all assistance at their respective research centres, ensuring a smoother PhD experience.
