A 24-year-old woman has died after allegedly falling from the roof of her in-laws’ residence in Jalpura village, Greater Noida. Police have reportedly detained her husband and father-in-law in connection with a suspected dowry-related death.
According to a report by news agency ANI, citing police, the incident occurred just about a year and a half after the woman’s marriage. Her uncle has alleged that her in-laws physically assaulted her and then allegedly pushed her off the terrace in an attempt to stage her death as an accident.
Husband and father-in-law arrested
Her spouse and father-in-law were arrested after the woman’s family filed a complaint.
Authorities stated that legal procedures, including an inquest and a post-mortem examination, are in progress as investigators look into the circumstances of her death. Her father alleged that she had been subjected to ongoing harassment and abuse over dowry demands since shortly after her marriage. He claimed that he had visited the family earlier that same day in an attempt to settle the continuing disputes.
‘We found her dead’
“Only yesterday, I visited their home and spoke with them. However, about thirty minutes after I left, I got a call from [father-in-law], who told me that my daughter had fallen,” he told ANI.
I asked him, 'Did she fall down the stairs? Did she slip in the bathroom?' He answered, 'She fell from the roof, and we are taking her to Sharda Hospital.' When we reached the hospital and saw her, she was already dead. We immediately informed the police," he added.
“People like this deserve nothing less than encounter.”
“They didn’t explain anything; they only informed us that she had fallen and asked us to come to Sharda Hospital,” the uncle stated. “We assumed it was just a routine injury. But when we arrived there, we learned that she had died.He reported that her body showed numerous indications of physical assault, along with a serious injury that appeared to have been inflicted by a sharp object, possibly a knife, screwdriver, or something similar. He described the injury as an extremely deep wound.
He further claimed that after attacking her, the perpetrators pushed her from the terrace to stage it as an accidental fall, alleging that the crime was motivated by dowry. Police have not verified the family’s allegations and stated that the precise cause of death will be established following the post-mortem report and additional investigation.
Bhopal dowry death case
In another incident, a 33-year-old woman from Noida was discovered hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on May 12. Her family has since accused her husband and mother-in-law of dowry-related harassment and murder.
According to police, the woman became acquainted with a Bhopal-based lawyer via a dating app in 2024 and married him in December 2025, after which she moved with his family to the Katara Hills area of Bhopal. Her relatives claimed she was dissatisfied with the marriage and had recently reported harassment and physical abuse by her husband and in-laws shortly before her death.
Although the police first handled the matter as a suspected suicide, a case of dowry death and harassment was later filed against the husband and his mother after the family lodged a complaint.A six-member Special Investigation Team has been constituted to probe allegations of dowry-related harassment, physical assault, and tampering with evidence.
