Pimpri-Chinchwad Cyber Fraud: Retired Government Officer Duped of ₹2.30 Crore

Pune: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Cyber Police have arrested three individuals for allegedly defrauding a retired government officer of ₹2.30 crore by offering fake insurance policies. The police successfully tracked and arrested two suspects in Delhi and one in Pune, recovering ₹10 lakh in cash, a money counting machine, and key documents.

The accused, identified as Bhupender Jivansingh Jina and Laxman Singh (son of Harinder Singh) from Delhi, along with Laxmankumar Punaraji Prajapati from Pune, allegedly impersonated representatives of an insurance company. They convinced the victim that by investing in their policy, he would receive high returns.

To make the scheme appear legitimate, the fraudsters demanded various payments under the pretense of official charges, including:

  • GST (Goods and Services Tax)

  • Income Tax

  • TDS (Tax Deducted at Source)

  • Transaction Charges

  • Verification Charges

  • NOC (No Objection Certificate) Fees

They falsely assured the victim that all payments would be refunded soon, eventually coercing him into transferring ₹2,30,08,898. It was later discovered that ₹1.61 crore was taken by accused Prajapati.

Acting on the complaint, the Cyber Police launched a technical investigation and traced Prajapati’s location to Raviwar Peth, Pune. He was arrested, and a search of his residence led to the recovery of ₹10 lakh in cash, a money counting machine, and several documents.

Further interrogation revealed the involvement of two more individuals based in Delhi. A police team conducted a 15-day operation in Delhi, successfully locating and arresting Jina and Singh.
