Pune: The Police Commissionerate for Pimpri-Chinchwad has finally secured a dedicated plot of land after six years. The Revenue and Forest Department of the state government has approved the allocation of nine acres of land in Jadhavwadi-Chikhali (Survey No. 539) for the Commissionerate office, residences, and parade ground. A well-equipped office will be constructed at this location.

The independent police commissionerate for the city was established on August 15, 2018, but it has been operating without a dedicated space for six years.

Initially, the state government had approved 50 acres of land in Dehugaon for the Commissionerate. However, local opposition from Dehu Devasthan, residents, and farmers led to delays and complications. As a result, the police also surveyed an alternative site in Moshi, but that option was later abandoned.

Currently, the Police Commissionerate operates temporarily out of a municipal school building on a rental basis, which is inadequate for its needs.

To address this, the police proposed a new location to the government, resulting in the approval of three hectares and 39 ares in Jadhavwadi, Chikhali.

The construction of the new Commissionerate building will commence soon. The government land will be used solely for the approved purposes, and the project must begin within three years from the date of possession.

Additionally, 15 acres of land at District Center, Wakad, owned by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), has also been allocated.

This site will be used for officer residences and technical offices. The government has also approved the provision of personnel for the dog squad (dog squad).

Chikhali: The New Administrative Hub

The choice of Chikhali for the Commissionerate coincides with its development into an administrative hub. The area will also house the Pimpri-Chinchwad Court, Government Engineering College, Moshi Hospital, and Rajya Sabha Bhavan.

The Regional Transport Office and the International Industrial Exhibition Center are also located here. This makes the area a central point for administrative institutions.

"The Police Commissionerate’s work has begun, but there was no independent building. Continuous follow-up with the state government and related departments has finally yielded results," said Mahesh Landge, MLA, Bhosari

"The Commissionerate was operating on a rental basis in an inadequate space, leading to various issues. With nine acres now available in Chikhali, the design by architects will soon be prepared, and construction will begin shortly. The proximity to the court and RTO will benefit citizens," said Vinay Kumar Choubey, Police Commissioner, Pimpri-Chinchwad
