Pune: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Regional Transport Office (RTO) has mandated the installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) for vehicles registered before 2019. The deadline for compliance is March 31, 2024. This directive aligns Maharashtra with other states where HSRPs are already compulsory.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had made it mandatory in 2019 for all new vehicles to be equipped with HSRPs. However, older vehicles required separate state-level orders for implementation. Maharashtra’s transport department has now enforced the rule for pre-2019 vehicles across the state.

Private Agency Appointed for Pimpri-Chinchwad Jurisdiction

A private agency will oversee the installation of HSRPs in the Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO area, which also covers Pune district's Khed, Junnar, Maval, and Lonavala talukas.

Process for Obtaining HSRPs:

  • Vehicle owners must visit the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Department’s official website at https://transport.maharashtra.gov.in.

  • They need to register on the booking portal and select an available slot for HSRP installation.

  • Upon slot confirmation, the designated agency will install the plates.

Charges for HSRP Installation:

  • Two-wheelers: ₹450

  • Three-wheelers: ₹500

  • Four-wheelers: ₹745

Importance of HSRPs:

High-Security Registration Plates ensure better vehicle identification and deter theft by including features such as tamper-proof designs and unique laser codes.

“A private agency has been assigned to handle the installation process in the Pimpri-Chinchwad region. We urge vehicle owners to comply with this mandate and install HSRPs on their vehicles by March 31,” said RTO officials.
