Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that he had spoken with his Nepalese counterpart Balen Shah following a deadly flash flood that struck parts of Nepal, and assured him of all possible humanitarian assistance.
In a post on X, Modi said he had spoken with Prime Minister Balendra Shah and offered condolences for the loss of lives caused by the floods in Nepal. He added that the people of India stand in solidarity with their brothers and sisters in Nepal during this challenging period, and noted that India is working closely with Nepal on rescue and relief operations.
At least eight people were killed and more casualties are feared after flash floods swept through Nepal’s Rasuwa district, which borders Tibet, on Wednesday. On the other side of the border, Tibet reported “major casualties,” with several people missing in Gyirong county following a mudslide that struck a land crossing between China and Nepal, according to the official Xinhua news agency.
At least 105 Indians missing after flash floods
More than 380 tourists, predominantly foreign nationals, were reported missing in Nepal on Wednesday after a powerful flood swept through the border area with Tibet, according to AFP.
"A preliminary agency-wise record received from tourism and travel companies has identified 384 travellers, including 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals, who were reported missing from the affected areas," said Nepal Tourism Board said.
At least 105 Indian citizens and 37 non-resident Indians are reported missing after the flash floods, which devastated villages and severely damaged key infrastructure.
