Pune Municipal Commissioner Dr. Rajendra Bhosale presented the ₹12,618.09 crore budget for the financial year 2025-26 before the Standing Committee on March 4 (Tuesday). This budget adopts a realistic and practical approach, prioritizing the completion of ongoing infrastructure projects rather than introducing new large-scale ventures.

Key Budget Highlights

No Property Tax Increase: Despite challenges in revenue collection, PMC has not proposed any hike in property tax for the upcoming financial year.

Revenue Sources for 2025-26:

  • Goods & Services Tax (GST): ₹2,701.77 crore

  • Property Tax: ₹2,847.23 crore

  • Building Development Fees: ₹2,899.99 crore

  • Government Grants: ₹1,633.44 crore

  • Water Charges: ₹618.72 crore

  • Other Income Sources: ₹975.50 crore

Major Allocations in the Budget

Urban Infrastructure & Traffic Management

  • ₹540 crore for solid waste management projects, including waste-to-energy initiatives.

  • ₹40 crore allocated for Pune Metro expansion.

  • ₹8 crore earmarked for the Bindu Madhav Thackeray Flyover project.

  • Road network enhancement & land acquisition for traffic decongestion.

Water and Environment

  • ₹270 crore allocated for Pune River Rejuvenation Project.

  • Development of 11 water treatment plants.

  • Implementation of advanced water purification technologies.

Public Health and Medical Advancements

  • ₹569.89 crore for PMC healthcare initiatives.

  • Establishment of an Epidemic Control Unit to manage infectious diseases.

  • Implementation of PET Scan Cancer Detection Project in collaboration with private hospitals.

Education & Community Development

  • Launch of Sister School Program for PMC Schools.

  • New Competitive Exam Training Center at City Library.

  • Modernization of crematoriums and urban public spaces.
