Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified its efforts to recover overdue property taxes, sealing 75 properties and collecting ₹40.68 crore from 317 defaulters over the past 18 days.
The PMC’s Property Tax Department has been tasked with generating ₹2,702.7 crore in revenue for the current fiscal year. So far, ₹1,841 crore has been collected, leaving a shortfall of approximately ₹900 crore to be recovered in the remaining three months.
To expedite collections, the PMC has initiated stringent measures across its 15 ward offices, including sealing properties and using bands to draw attention to defaulters’ premises. Deputy Commissioner of the Property Tax Department, Madhav Jagtap, shared that around 14.8 lakh property tax bills were issued for the current financial year, of which 8.84 lakh property owners have cleared their dues.
However, nearly 6 lakh property owners are yet to pay their taxes. "We urge citizens to settle their outstanding amounts promptly and cooperate with the PMC. Timely payment will help avoid the embarrassment of enforcement actions,” said Jagtap.
PMC has seized 26 properties, including the headquarters of the Sinhagad Institutes in Erandwane, over an outstanding property tax of ₹47.43 crore. The institute failed to clear its dues despite court orders to pay the arrears immediately. The PMC has warned that if the pending amount is not paid within 30 days, the seized properties will be auctioned to recover the dues.
