Pimpri: The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has resumed its strict actions against unauthorized constructions and related violations.
In a renewed effort, the department has issued notices to around 10,000 unauthorized structures, and criminal cases have already been registered in five instances. The crackdown comes in the wake of non-compliance with PMRDA directives to obtain construction permissions.
Notices and Criminal Cases
PMRDA’s Unauthorized Construction Eradication Department has confirmed that five cases have been registered against individuals violating building regulations. Additionally, applications for three more cases have been filed with local police stations, and these will be formalized soon.
Dr. Deepti Suryavanshi, Joint Commissioner of the Unauthorized Construction Eradication Department, stated: “Election work has concluded, and officials are returning to their duties. Meetings have been scheduled next week to strategize the next steps. Further action will be initiated shortly following the Commissioner’s orders.”
Action Against Illegal Hoardings
The PMRDA has announced that from next week, operations will also target unauthorized hoardings across nine talukas under its jurisdiction.
Strengthening Resources
To facilitate the crackdown, PMRDA plans to hire additional contract-based employees and increase departmental staff. This move aims to streamline operations that had been stalled due to a shortage of police protection during the election period. With elections now concluded, necessary police support has become more accessible.
PMRDA’s Appeal
The authority has reiterated its appeal to property owners to obtain the requisite permissions for construction and to cease any unauthorized activities immediately. Violators risk legal action, including criminal charges, as demonstrated by the recent cases.
