Pune, 26 August 2025: Police have filed a written objection in court against the bail plea of Pranjal Khewalkar, an accused in the Kharadi drug party case. They argued that he tried to tamper with key digital evidence and could interfere further if released on bail.
During the investigation, police seized two mobile phones from Khewalkar. One of the SIM cards was found to be registered in another person’s name. While forensic checks were ongoing, the original SIM owner in Jalgaon claimed it was lost and obtained a replacement card.
Investigators said the new SIM was inserted into another phone to access WhatsApp linked to the case. After the required information was extracted, important messages were deleted. Police told the court this amounted to a clear attempt to destroy evidence.
Khewalkar’s lawyer had earlier filed a bail application, after which the court asked police to present their side. In response, police warned that granting bail could lead to further tampering of digital proof.
Senior officers also hinted that more charges could be added to the case, and the number of accused may increase. They confirmed that some of Khewalkar’s close associates are suspected of helping in the evidence deletion, and further investigation is in progress.
