Pune: Former Zilla Parishad member Amol Nalawade, along with several Congress leaders, has joined the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

Nalawade, known for his decade-long political presence in the Kuran Khurd Vinzar constituency, cited developmental needs as the primary reason for his switch to the NCP. He stated, “Key projects such as the Ghol to Kumbhe road, administrative building for the taluka, Velhe to Raigad road, and the development plans for the historic Torna and Rajgad forts have been pending for years. These can only be realized under the leadership of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.”

Nalawade’s entry into the NCP was accompanied by several prominent leaders, including former Chairperson Raghunath Kathure, Ashok Renuse, and a large number of workers.

The event was graced by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, MLA Shankar Mandekar, NCP Pune District President Pradeep Garatkar, former Zilla Parishad Vice President Ranjit Shivtare, and other senior leaders, underscoring the significance of this political development.

Nalawade’s induction has reportedly caused discontent among senior NCP leaders, including Pune District Bank Director Revannath Darvatkar and his allies, who have expressed dissatisfaction with the decision.

Following the defeat of MLA Sangram Thopte in recent elections, Nalawade’s defection has widened the rift within the Congress party. Speculation is rife that more Congress office bearers may follow suit and join Ajit Pawar-led NCP.
