
Pune, 4th December 2024: A 19-year-old accused with over 100 registered cases of theft and burglary was arrested by the Vishrantwadi Police.
Identified as Mahesh Kashinath Chavan, a resident of Hadapsar, the offender was apprehended after a recent burglary in Dhanori led to a detailed investigation.
The burglary involved the theft of gold jewelry, which prompted the police to intensify their search for the accused. Acting on a tip-off, Police Sub-Inspector Nitin Rathod located Chavan in Ganganagar, Hadapsar.
A police team set a trap and successfully arrested him. During interrogation, Chavan confessed to committing the crime along with an accomplice.
The police recovered gold jewelry worth ₹2.61 lakh and a two-wheeler from the accused. Investigations revealed that Chavan began his criminal activities as a minor in 2020 at the age of 15.
Over the years, he has been involved in more than 100 cases, frequently changing accomplices for his crimes.
This operation was conducted under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Himmat Jadhav, with a team comprising Senior Inspector Kanchan Jadhav, Sub-Inspector Nitin Rathod, and officers Baban Vanve, Sandeep Devkate, Yashwant Kirve, and Krishna Machare.
