Pune: In a move to prevent the illegal trade of stolen vehicles, the Additional District Magistrate of Pune has issued orders mandating that dealers of old vehicles in rural areas provide transaction details to local police stations every seven days. Failure to comply with the directive will result in action under Section 223 of the Indian Penal Code.
The rural areas of Pune district have witnessed rapid urbanization, leading to an increase in transactions involving old vehicles, particularly motorcycles.
However, the lack of proper documentation for such sales has raised concerns about stolen vehicles being traded by criminals. Authorities have noted that the absence of accurate transaction records impedes the detection and resolution of crimes.
Details to Be Submitted
The order requires dealers to furnish comprehensive details for every vehicle sold or purchased. These include:
Vehicle Information: Registration number, engine number, and chassis number.
Seller Information: Name, permanent and current address, phone number, and identity proof.
Buyer Information: Name, permanent and current address, phone number, and identity proof.
Vehicle Documents: Registration Certificate (RC) book and Transfer Certificate (TC) book.
Dealers must ensure that these details are submitted to the respective local police station at intervals of seven days.
Purpose of the Order
The primary objective of the directive is to prevent the misuse of unregistered transactions by criminals who trade in stolen vehicles. By maintaining proper records, authorities aim to enhance the detection of such activities and improve overall crime resolution rates.
