Pune International Airport to get a dedicated terminal for private helicopters and chartered flights under AAI’s 300-acre expansion plan.
The facility will ease congestion, offering separate lounges, immigration, and faster security for business travellers and tourists.
Officials say growing demand from IT, manufacturing, and defence sectors makes private aviation infrastructure essential for Pune’s growth.
Pune, 3rd September 2025: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has proposed a separate general aviation terminal at Pune International Airport to cater exclusively to private helicopters and chartered flights. At present, non-scheduled operators share the same space with commercial airlines, which often leads to congestion and operational delays.
The new terminal is part of the airport’s 300-acre expansion project. It will include waiting lounges, check-in counters, customs, immigration, and dedicated security checks. Officials said the facility will benefit operators like Matrix, Vistara Aviation, and Pawan Hans, while also improving convenience for business executives, high-profile travellers, and international visitors.
Pune has witnessed rising demand for private air travel, driven by its role as a hub for IT, manufacturing, and defence industries. Civil Aviation Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol said the city’s growth requires matching infrastructure. He noted that a separate terminal will not only ease pressure on the existing passenger terminal but also make travel more efficient for frequent flyers and investors.
According to officials, the project aims to provide faster and more private services, positioning Pune as a modern aviation hub and ensuring its airport facilities keep pace with the city’s rapid economic development.
