Pune, 31 July 2025: Pune Police have sealed a brothel operating in Budhwar Peth for three years after uncovering a case involving the trafficking and sexual exploitation of an underage girl from Bangladesh.
The action follows a complaint filed by the rescued minor. According to police, traffickers lured the girl from Bangladesh with false promises of good employment and smuggled her illegally into India. She was then confined to a brothel located on the third floor of New Building in Budhwar Peth and forcibly pushed into prostitution.
Based on the girl's complaint, the Faraskhana Police Station registered a case against two accused: Babita Mohammad Shabir Shaikh (61, resident of Budhwar Peth) and Champa alias Vishnumaya Dinesh Lama (51, resident of New Building, Budhwar Peth, originally from Nepal). They are accused of running the brothel and exploiting the minor.
Senior Police Inspector Prashant Bhasme of Faraskhana Police Station initiated the process to seal the establishment. He submitted a formal proposal through then-Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeepsingh Gill and Additional Commissioner Rajesh Bansode. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar approved the proposal, ordering the three-year closure.
The sealing operation was carried out by a team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Krinikesh Rawle and Assistant Commissioner of Police Anuja Deshmane, along with other officers including Police Inspectors Uttam Namwade and Ajit Jadhav.
