A disturbing incident of gang rape has shaken Pune, involving a 27-year-old woman from Bhutan. The victim, who has been living in Pune since 2020, was allegedly assaulted by seven men, including former NCP leader Shantanu Kukde. The case has sparked widespread outrage and led to the arrest of all seven accused.
The victim, originally from Bhutan, moved to India for education and work. She initially stayed in Bodh Gaya before relocating to Pune. The victim met one of the accused, Rishikesh, who introduced her to Shantanu Kukde. Kukde provided her with accommodation and financial assistance for education, exploiting this relationship for personal gain. The assaults occurred at multiple locations, including Lonavala, Raigad, and Panshet, under the guise of social gatherings.
NCP clarified that Shantanu Kukde is no longer an office bearer of the party, having resigned in 2024. The party condemned the incident and distanced itself from Kukde’s actions.
This shocking case need for vigilance and swift action against such crimes. Support for the victim and the administration of justice are essential throughout the legal process in order to prevent similar incidents in the future.
