Pune: The voter lists in Pune district are set to undergo a comprehensive revision to remove duplicate entries, names of deceased individuals, and those who have permanently migrated. The initiative, aimed at ensuring the accuracy of electoral rolls, was announced by District Collector Jitendra Dudi during a meeting with representatives of various political parties.
The meeting, attended by Deputy District Election Officer Meenal Kalaskar and district heads of political parties, focused on implementing corrective measures to improve voter lists.
District Collector Dudi emphasized that names appearing in multiple locations would be removed after thorough verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). He further assured that the names of deceased voters would be eliminated based on official records provided by local governing bodies such as Gram Panchayats, municipal councils, and municipal corporations.
Additionally, the administration plans to conduct surveys through BLOs to identify permanently migrated voters and update the records accordingly. To facilitate this process, BLOs will receive specialized training. The district administration also pledged to rectify any incorrect inclusions in the voter lists, ensuring a transparent and fair update process.
During the meeting, political party representatives shared their inputs on improving the accuracy of electoral rolls. The electoral branch provided a presentation detailing the methodology and procedures to be followed.
District officials urged political parties to extend their cooperation in this initiative to ensure a more reliable and error-free voter list ahead of upcoming elections.
