Pune, 8th September 2025: City Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that the timing of the Ganesh visarjan procession was not as important as ensuring safety and peace.

He stressed that the focus of the police was on making the celebration secure and enjoyable for everyone rather than completing the procession quickly. Despite some delays, the event concluded smoothly with strong police arrangements and cooperation from Ganesh mandals.

Before the procession began, there were disagreements among a few mandals over the schedule. Some felt they were given less time than others. However, discussions with organizers helped resolve the issue. Senior mandals completed their processions within the allotted slots, which allowed smaller groups to participate with equal enthusiasm.

This year, the newly operational metro stations at Kasba and Swargate made it easier for devotees to reach the main routes, leading to a larger crowd compared to last year. Kumar said the police planned crowd management carefully, focusing on the safety of children, women, and elderly devotees. As a result, no untoward incidents or stampede-like situations occurred.

On complaints against certain dhol-tasha troupes, Kumar admitted that there were instances of misbehaviour with journalists and devotees. He explained that while troupes were allowed more members this year due to their preparation, restrictions will be introduced from next year. Guidelines will be framed in consultation with troupe leaders to avoid trouble without discouraging their cultural contribution.
