The developments come after two violent incidents in Kothrud on September 17. In the first attack, Ghaywal’s gang shot and seriously injured 22-year-old Prakash Madhukar Dhumal over a minor dispute near the local police station. Later, the same gang attacked another young man with a machete, leaving him wounded.

Following the incidents, Pune police arrested five members of Ghaywal’s gang: Mayur Gulab Kumbare (29), Anand Anil Chandlekar (24), Ganesh Satish Raut (32), Mayank alias Monty Vijay Vyas (30), and Dinesh Ram Pathak (28), all residents of Kothrud. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend other absconding gang members.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar stated that legal action under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) has been initiated against Ghaywal and ten other gang members. “Ghaywal fled abroad before questioning could begin. We are monitoring his movements and he will be arrested as soon as he returns to India,” said Deputy Commissioner Sambhaji Kadam.
