Pune: A man has been arrested for repeatedly assaulting his wife and driving her to suicide due to suspicions about her character. The woman, unable to bear the abuse, took her own life on Tuesday, July 2, at her residence in Dhankawadi.

The deceased has been identified as Shivani Deepak Damgude, 24, who lived behind Suvarnayug School in Dhankawadi, Pune. Her husband, Deepak Vitthal Damgude, 30, has been charged and arrested in connection with the case.

The complaint was filed by Shivani's father, Kashinath Kalu Raut, 50, from Kopar Khairane, Navi Mumbai, on Wednesday, July 3, at the Sahakarnagar Police Station.

According to the police, Shivani married Deepak Damgude in 2019. Following their marriage, Deepak frequently assaulted Shivani, both physically and verbally, due to suspicions about her character. He beat her with his hands and a belt, threatened to abandon her, and subjected her to continuous abuse.

On Tuesday, unable to endure the mental and physical torment any longer, Shivani committed suicide by hanging herself in their home. Based on Raut's complaint, the police have registered a case against Deepak and arrested him. Further investigation is ongoing.

Another Married Woman Commits Suicide in Hadapsar

In a separate incident in Hadapsar, a married woman committed suicide due to mental and physical harassment from her husband and in-laws.

The victim, Shivani Siddharth Thorat, 26, hanged herself on Monday, July 1, at her residence in Shivraya Colony, Kalepadal, Hadapsar.

The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against her husband, Siddharth Bibhishan Thorat, and her in-laws, Bibhishan Thorat and his wife.

The complaint was filed by Shivani's father, Sunil Kamanna Shivpuje, 53, from Patas, Daund, at the Wanwadi Police Station.
