The Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries, and Agriculture (MCCIA) has released promising results from its latest survey, highlighting a 10% growth in Pune's industrial sector. This growth reflects the resilience and optimism within the region’s business community, especially among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and manufacturing industries.
The survey conducted across 108 companies revealed that 84% of respondents anticipate growth in the current financial year (FY 2024-25), while only 5% foresee a decline. Notably, 37% of companies reported revenue growth exceeding 20%, with electronics and defense manufacturing sectors leading this momentum
Pune’s MSME sector has emerged as a key driver of this growth, supported by consistent credit availability from banks. Manufacturing industries, particularly in electronics and defense, are seeing increased investments and production sophistication.
According to the State Level Bankers Conference (SLBC), Pune district achieved 72% of its credit disbursal target by September 2024, reflecting robust financial support for businesses.
Pune’s access to a highly skilled workforce has enabled industries to scale operations efficiently.Continued improvements in infrastructure, including road connectivity and industrial parks, have attracted investments to Pune.
Policies promoting MSMEs and manufacturing have played a crucial role in fostering growth.
Despite the positive outlook, certain challenges remain:
Efficient transportation and supply chain management need further improvement to sustain growth momentum.
While production sophistication is increasing, stakeholders are cautious about whether this growth will translate into significant job creation.
The MCCIA survey underscores the resilience of Pune’s industrial sector, which continues to thrive despite global uncertainties. With strong support from MSMEs and manufacturing industries, coupled with robust credit availability and infrastructure development, Pune is well-positioned for sustained economic growth in the coming years.
