Pune: In a move to enhance last-mile connectivity, Pune Metro has introduced an e-scooter rental service near Anand Nagar Metro Station, benefiting students and daily commuters. This pilot project, in partnership with Genesis Electric Mobility, allows metro passengers to rent e-scooters for convenient travel within a 4-km radius.

Currently, the service is available between Anand Nagar Metro Station and MIT University, offering students an affordable, easy, and eco-friendly commuting option.

Key Features of the E-Scooter Rental Service

  • Low Rental Cost – ₹3 per minute, making it a budget-friendly option for students.

  • Smart Booking & Tracking – Students can book scooters via an app and track them through Aadhaar-linked software.

  • Campus-Friendly – Three docking stations have been set up within MIT University, allowing seamless travel inside the campus.

  • No License Required – The 250-watt e-scooter, with a maximum speed of 25 kmph, complies with RTO regulations and does not require a driving license.

  • Metro-Compatible – E-scooters can be carried inside metro trains for extended connectivity.

Dr. Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director of Pune Metro, shared the organization’s vision for expansion: "We plan to extend this initiative to other metro stations, ensuring improved last-mile connectivity for all commuters. Our aim is to make public transport more accessible and sustainable."

Aniruddha Gunjal from Genesis Electric Mobility added: "The project is currently in a pilot phase, but we aim to introduce it at all metro stations and key public areas across Pune."

A student using the service expressed their appreciation: "This initiative has made commuting much more convenient. It’s cost-effective and environmentally friendly, which makes it a great alternative to traditional transport options."
