From August 15, Pune Metro will run trains every six minutes during peak hours, reducing the current gap and adding 64 extra trips daily.
The total number of daily trips will rise from 490 to 554, benefiting over two lakh commuters.
The change comes ahead of the Ganpati festival, when passenger numbers are expected to surge.
Pune, 14 August 2025: Commuters in Pune will soon experience faster and more frequent metro services, with trains on both corridors running every six minutes during peak hours starting August 15. The current frequency of seven minutes will be reduced, adding 64 additional trips per day.
This upgrade will increase the total daily trips from 490 to 554 across the Pune Metro Phase I network, which spans 33.2 km along the PCMC–Swargate and Vanaz–Ramwadi routes. The network includes 27.2 km of elevated tracks and a 6 km underground stretch, serving key stations like Shivajinagar, District Court, Kasba Peth, Mandai, and Swargate.
Peak-hour services will operate between 8 am and 11 am and 4 pm to 8 pm, while the off-peak frequency will remain at 10 minutes. Officials said the decision follows two months of trials to ensure the system could handle the shorter intervals between trains.
Maha Metro’s Managing Director said the increased frequency will make travel faster and more comfortable, especially during the upcoming Ganpati festival when ridership is expected to spike. The metro currently serves over two lakh passengers daily, with numbers steadily rising since July.
