Pune, 16 August 2025: Pune woke up to light but steady showers on Saturday, with the surrounding ghats and the Mumbai–Pune Expressway seeing periods of heavy rainfall, particularly in the Lonavala–Khandala stretch. Motorists reported sharp spells along the highway, making travel slow and water-logged in patches.
Mumbai, meanwhile, continued to reel under extremely heavy rain through the morning, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) radar capturing strong rain bands lining up offshore near the Mumbai–Thane coast. These rain bands are stretching inland towards Raigad, Nashik, and Pune, raising the likelihood of more intense spells in the hours ahead.
The IMD has issued an alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Maharashtra, including Pune, Nashik, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Ahilyanagar, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar between August 16 and 19. With widespread showers already active, authorities have advised caution in low-lying areas and ghat sections prone to landslides and waterlogging.
