Pune, 24 September 2025: Pune Municipal Corporation has established 23 special cells to speed up preparations for the upcoming municipal elections. Officers have been appointed to head these cells and were instructed to start work immediately, Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said.
The municipal elections in Pune are likely to be held in the last two weeks of January. The ward structure will be finalized by October 6, after which reservations for the wards will be announced. Political activity in Pune is picking up, and the administration is ensuring that preparations keep pace.
For smooth conduct of the elections in Pune, around 24,000 employees will be required. So far, 19,000 staff members have already been arranged. The 23 special cells are meant to organize and oversee all election-related work efficiently.
Each cell head in Pune has been instructed to report directly to the Municipal Commissioner. Officials have been told not to contact the Election Commission or state government directly; all communication must go through the Deputy Commissioner (Elections). This responsibility will remain with them until the elections are completed.
The cells in Pune cover key areas such as election staff management, polling centers, postal ballot handling, polling and counting, stationery distribution, public information, telecommunication, meeting arrangements, code of conduct enforcement, malpractice monitoring, traffic and electricity management, IT and EVM management, coordination, legal and health services, and water supply.
